The aim of the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) is to fight against poverty, climate change and global economic crises. The belief of the WFTO is that trade must benefit the most vulnerable and deliver sustainable livelihoods by developing opportunities for disadvantaged producers. Ecoffins has been supplying WFTO accredited coffins and caskets for over 15 years, and was the first and only coffin manufacturing company in the world to be granted Guaranteed Fair Trade Status by the WFTO.
The National Association of Funeral Directors is dedicated to maintaining standards in the funeral business across the UK for over 100 years, providing members with resources to support them in delivering high standards of care for bereaved and deceased people – and ensuring consumers have the information they need to make informed decisions when arranging a funeral. Ecoffins have been supplier members of the organisation for over 15 years.
The Association of Green Funeral Directors (AGFD) promotes greener and more natural funerals to funeral directors and members of the public. The main objectives of the AGFD is; to help members of the public find funeral homes in their area which are willing to provide more sustainable and eco-friendly options in the funerals they carry out. And to encourage funeral directors to become more green-minded in all aspects of their work and help bring natural funerals into the mainstream. Ecoffins is a founding member of the AGFD.
The Coffin Casket and Shroud Association (CCSA) sets the standard for all coffins, caskets and shrouds sold in the UK, in particular those used for cremation. In order to ensure coffins used for cremation are safe and ready to use, tests are carried out by a UKAS accredited and independent testing house. Accredited coffins will have undergone a range of tests with those that pass the tests receiving accreditation. The tests include those for strength, ignition, radiant heat, ash volume and residue. The CCSA has also received the backing of the Federation of British Cremation Authorities (FBCA), the Institute of Cemetery & Crematorium Management (ICCM), the Association of Private Crematoria & Cemeteries (APCC) and the Cremation Society of Great Britain (CSGB) in their Development of Guidelines for Cremation Authorities. All Ecoffins coffins and caskets have achieved accreditation as suitable for cremation.
