Our Pandanus coffins are made in Indonesia in only World Fair Trade Organisation accredited workshops, making a real difference to the lives of the local people.Pandanus coffins offer a beautifully distinctive and environmentally responsible alternative to traditional coffins. Handwoven from natural Pandanus leaf fibres, these coffins combine exceptional craftsmanship with sustainability, making them an ideal choice for families seeking an eco-friendly, biodegradable, and visually striking coffin for burial or cremation.
Pandanus, sometimes known as screw pine, is a fast-growing, renewable plant native to tropical regions. Its long, fibrous leaves are traditionally used for weaving due to their natural strength, flexibility, and durability. When crafted into coffins, Pandanus creates a strong yet lightweight structure with a warm, organic appearance.
Each Ecoffins Pandanus coffin is individually handcrafted by skilled artisans using responsibly sourced Pandanus leaves and natural binding fibres. The material is carefully dried and woven using traditional methods to produce a sturdy and breathable structure while preserving the natural texture and character of the fibre.
No synthetic boards, MDF, veneers, plastics, or metal fixings are used in the construction. All coffins are finished without toxic varnishes, stains, or chemical sealants, ensuring they are; fully biodegradable, plastic-free and metal-free, environmentally safe for burial, suitable for cremation and compatible with green burial regulations.
Every Pandanus coffin is unique in colour and weave pattern, reflecting the natural variation of the plant fibres used.
