During their graduation project at Delft University of Technology, founders Bob
Hendrikx and Lonneke Hendrikx-Westhoff explored ways to collaborate with nature.
In the forest, they found their answers in mycelium, the underground root network of
mushrooms and nature’s recycler. Mycelium has the amazing ability to convert dead
organic matter into nourishment for nature. What if we can become part of this loop
of life, enriching the Earth and becoming a source for new life? Their approach is to,
in collaboration with nature, naturally reintroduce nutrients into the cycle of life. Let’s
enrich nature!
Their product line entails three enriching products:
1. Loop Living Cocoon™: become part of nature’s majestic loop of life and enrich the
earth with the world’s first living coffin.
2. Loop EarthRise™: be remembered in nature by becoming a source for new
seedlings to thrive with the mushroom urn.
3. Loop ForestBed™: become one with nature within 45 days with the world’s first
living funeral carrier.
Loop Biotech’s products are grown in just 7 days from local mushrooms (mycelium) and upcycled hemp fibres. By using these innovative materials, we return nutrients to the earth and allow new life to flourish.
What makes these products even more special is the option to personalize them with a biodegradable paint kit. This way, you can create a respectful and sustainable final resting place for your loved one, while still honouring traditional funeral practices.
In addition, they have designed multiple accessories and interior linings to
complement their products and create a truly personal and memorable farewell
experience:
Bed of moss
The Loop Living Cocoon™ comes standard with a soft moss bed and pillow. The moss
is 100% natural and sourced from the Netherlands. If you prefer a different interior
lining, you can choose from wool, hemp, or soft organic cotton.
Bed of wool
Choose a soft bed made from 100% Dutch wool, sourced from Kempisch heath sheep
known for their role in conservation in the Kempen region. Locally crafted in the
Netherlands and GreenLeave certified. The wool bed comes with a pillow and
blanket, with a density of 500 g/m².
Bed of hemp
Replace the moss bed with an elegant hemp interior lining. Hemp, a fast-growing
plant with minimal water needs, is cultivated globally without the use of herbicides
or insecticides. Loop Biotech has chosen Mediterranean hemp, which grows
impressively, reaching 2.5 to 4.5 meters in just 130 to 150 days, making it one of the
fastest-growing hemp varieties. Sourced and processed in Europe, where it is also
spun and woven, it is GreenLeave certified for sustainability. The hemp lining comes
with a pillow and blanket, with a density of 345 g/m².
Bed of soft bio-cotton
Swap the moss bed for a soft interior lining made of bio-cotton. This slightly thicker
knitted fabric is brushed on both sides, giving it a light, airy look and a wonderfully
soft feel. Made from organic cotton sourced in Europe, it carries the GOTS (Global
Organic Textile Standard) certification. The bio-cotton lining includes a pillow and
blanket, with a density of 320 g/m².
All of their products can be used in a natural as well as traditional burial, and are
certified for cremation. Grown from upcycled hemp fibers and local mushroom
species, their products are 100% natural and GreenLeave certified.
